Leading in the New Millennium
Go to the people. Learn from them. Live with them. Start with what they know. Build with what they have. The best of leaders when the job is done, when the task is accomplished, the people will say we have done it ourselves. Lao Tzu

Leaders in the 21st century are facing new and more complex challenges as organizations become more fluid and global. This session is grounded in the theory and practice of values-based and servant leadership. Participants explore their values and the impact they have on their leadership. This program empowers leaders to promote honesty and integrity within and with others, to listen and collaborate, enable others to grow and learn, and to share knowledge and information. Tactics include developing a shared vision, empowering others to lead, building effective teams, authentic communication and recognizing success.

Youth Leading Change
Whether at home or abroad, youth can make a difference! This workshop engages learners in the practice of service learning, defined as youth engaged in community service, civic engagement and social activism for the purpose of learning.  It is “real life” experience in service, project management and leadership. This workshop offers learners a road map to achieving successful and sustainable projects that impact their community while increasing their leadership competency. Participants can “be the change they want to see” and exercise the leadership necessary to make a positive change in the community.

Service Learning: Creating Leaders for Tomorrow
How can educators support their learners in civic engagement? Service learning puts into action what learners have gained from their experiences in and out of the classroom. Based upon the presenter’s research, this workshop presents a four-step approach to service learning to develop sustainable community-based projects. Best practices in intergenerational partnerships are also discussed as a guide for educators to effectively support learners in the planning and delivery of these projects. By supporting learners in service learning, educators provide the continuous skill building and leadership training necessary to live and work in a global environment.

These training sessions are available to secondary schools, colleges and universities, private and non-profit organizations and professional conferences. Contact Tamara Thorpe for details and availability.
