It is my pleasure to introduce myself and share my passion and enthusiasm for life, cross-cultural understanding and learning. I am committed to facilitating the growth and development of youth, educators and their communities because I believe we CAN make the world a better place. Through knowledge, understanding, respect, truth, empowerment and service we can create more caring communities.
Our world and communities can change, and it is through intergenerational collaboration and intercultural education that this can happen. With education and training, people of all ages, races, classes, ethnicities and nationalities will create the world we want to live in.
Growing up in the multicultural back drop of Los Angeles and in a multi-ethnic family provided me early insight into the complexity of intercultural relations. My first opportunity to travel abroad further created in me an appreciation of my culture and as well as others. For twenty years now I have been further inspired by my personal and professional intercultural experiences-including living, working, studying and traveling for extended periods in Asia, Canada, Europe and Mexico.
The combination of my life and professional experiences has given me a unique perspective on issues of diversity, multiculturalism, intercultural understanding and internationalism. It has also developed a strong desire in me to not only learn about other cultures but also to teach the value of understanding.
My professional resume includes work in minority student retention, English as a Second Language, international education and counseling, program coordination for university and non-profit programs, and teacher training. I am also active in community service and social activism. It has played an invaluable role in my commitment to leadership and service.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics from the University of California San Diego and a Masters Degree in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. I have also recently earned a Certificate in Youth Ministry from the Naramata Centre in British Columbia.
